Good review Dustin, you really covered everything. And this drone is hard to beat, especially when you consider the price vs the Mavic 2 series.

Just the fact that you have the balls to do the “will it crash while going sideways on auto mode” gained all my likes & respect ✊🏻 thank you! Seems to me the only down side of this drone is that it doesn’t have sideway sensors.

I’m just learning to fly a drone. I bought one of those micro drones a Cheerson cH 10. This is tricky to fly. Will a Mavic air be easier to fly?

Great review! However I had to fast forward the spinning (orbit), it was making me nauseous lol. I'm trying to find my next drone to upgrade from my mavic mini ver 1. This seems like a logical upgrade choice. I just don't know when the next drone is scheduled to drop, that's my only concern.

If you have a iPhone can you still pear it

55:02 - I found my drone will land exactly on the home point (to within a couple inches) if I take off, then immediately go up to 27 ft. At that point it memorizes the ground with the bottom visual sensors and will land in the right spot. I learned this trick from Pilot Institute's free course.

Great review as usual... Look it doesn't have precision landing yet... Reminds me of my Mavic 2 when it was first released it didn't have precision landing. Untill we jumped up and down about it and DJI then included precesion landing in a firmware update. I'd say this would be similar story.

Is the Air 2 suitable for night-flying? We're having an awful lot of car
break-ins in my area and I was thinking of running night-time drone
flights to keep an eye on the neighborhood's streets. The flight-path
would always be over the center of the streets involved, I'd have a
strobe-light mounted for the night-time stuff. My neighborhood is
basically dead-as-a-doornail from midnight to 6 a.m. or so (except for
infrequent police patrols) since it's a retirement community. Would
there be any way, or any other equipment I could purchase to make a
"programmed" flight-path, so I wouldn't have to manually fly it every
time? You've got a great resource here and I'm really hoping for an

I calibrated my compass but landing is always off a few feet still. Is this normal to miss the pad all the time? This is my first drone so I'm just curious

If you don't calibrate your drone you get the issue's you had. Heads up when you get a new drone before you use it calibrate.

I believe you need to be going in a general direction for parallel to work properly. You can't really parallel an object if it doesn't move in a straight line.

can you change the Helix direction?

I think the return to home landed where it was once it took off. If you recall, it moved due to wind.
You probably need to move back over the mat and set home point there when it blows away a little on take off.

Hi. i am sure my mavic air 2 is too fast in tripod mode. Do you agree that the drone does not go at a crawl speed in that mode. I find it harder to capture cinematic shots. Do you know of a setting that brings the speed down, or will it be a firmware update issue. I noticed this on my first flight out the box, and the issue remains to this day. Thanks.

Great review. It's not going to see the landing matt. First off, the camera went to landing mode to protect the lens. It's relies on GPS for this and that has about a 9 foot error I believe.

Hey great review, now then, after a year of owning the mini and 6 months of the air2 , can you do a quick review on maintenance if any, ie motors verses flight hours, is the gimbal as good as it first was, that sort of thing.

The ND Filter definitely is a good thing in bright sunlight. Without it your highlights will be blowout and the sky would be white.

Just FYI, Its good to let the GPS caputure home point before flight. This way you get a better return to home landing. Nice video.

Just got this yesterday and I have a mini also and had no prob syncing it with my dji app. I actually have 2 minis registered on this app. I didn't have to Uninstaller the app. Maybe its an issue dji recently fixed. Love ur videos. U do great revues. Keep them cqoming.

Had I watched your Flight Test Review sooner, I would have definitely NOT bought the Air 2. A Total Let-Down Disappointment. I purchased the Mavic 2 Pro in Sept '19, plus Flymore kit. FANTASTIC!! Nine months of pure flying pleasure. Sold it in July to a Nature scientist, who lives in South Africa and the north of Namibia, and follows the movements of a tribe of Lions. Bought a Samsung A10 mobile. Purchased the Air 2 in Sept.'20. No 1. My Samsung is NOT compatible. Am using a Huawei P9 with the controller. No2. The height sensor malfunctions. It sometimes reads -3 Meters on touchdown. You commented on that. It dips or goes higher. No3. None of the 4 modes in Normal, lets you use all four sticks. That includes Custom. It refuses to do parallel flight, either left or right. By accident I changed to Sport Mode. It then moved left and right. In Tripod also, once you go to Sport Mode first. Due to bad weather here in the Netherlands, I haven't done any more tests, and its too late to return for a credit.
Depending on your reply, I'll keep you posted once I'm back in Cape Town, hopefully in December. I'm not planning on doing a range test as yet. I have posted photo's and videos on my Facebook Page whilst in SA, taken with the Pro.

I can't get further than 1200 feet away before I get a loss of signal warning and the Air 2 starts automatically coming Home! That's bullshit! They need to either send me a new controller or drone that can do better than that!

Got mine on Friday after using the mini but as much as I love my mini, more often than not it's been too windy to fly it and I'm pretty sure the M2 will handle the wind a bit better. Hope to take it up north to fly around the Avocado orchard where I work and it will be my first time using it here in the far North of new Zealand.

I'm thinking of selling my mavic air and getting the mavic air 2. Alot of people seem to not like the dji fly app. Is it much worse then go 4? It looks like it has alot less info. What about the new controler? It also seems to have mixed reviews. What is the controler like compared to the original one? I'm not huge on the idea of a bigger controller...any thoughts? Also, does the control sticks from the original controller fit on the new controller? I'm wondering because I have a spare set lying around. Thanks

Your phone is setting the screen orientation. Please learn at least a minimal amount about photography and read the manual before reviewing! I might watch other reviews by you if I want to show someone how to not do a review. The manual warns about checking for obstacles when doing quick shots, you idiot!

Hey, you dont have to use the phone to switch between camera and video. The camera icon on the top right of the controller will swap between video and picture for you. Just in case you havent seen that yet. Its the icon with the camera and the arrow swirl like the function key.

I did not like using the nd16 filter seemed too dark, even in bright light, probably better for snow, or sandy beach, so I bought an nd4, and nd8.

Is there a reason why you plug in the controller to the phone only after the controller and the drone has connected?

I think your RTH was off because your heighth wasn't calibrated correctly. It appeared to be off by a goodly amount (showing a negative value until 20 or so feet in the air. Mine will adjust itself as it comes closer to the ground to land just about where it started, but since yours was showing negative already at that point, I think it just landed where it was.

Switch to imperial... Lmao. Most stupid units on earth. And knowing why it is called imperial makes it even more absurd.
