I just love your range tests, because you do record it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, You always push the envelope so that we don't have to and I love that you give a real life scenario to what can happen with drones. BTW, that gimble control with moving side to side was amazing.

i just got me one. i flew mines. i love it but my gps sensors don't work at night time, it works at daytime only just a heads up.

how come at 65ft you have everything looks so tini-tiny? even if I say cow is 3 ft tall they look like miniature and those trees even if I take each tree height of 10 ft they look very small. did you use fisheye/wide angle lens or some kind?

These super duper range tests are pretty cool. But it seems like 98% of them are being flown in the middle of nowhere with very little to no chances of WiFi or other forms of RF interference. That sounds great in a perfect world we'd all get super range on these drones. But the reality is most of us are in areas where WiFi and other forms of RF interference won't allow us to get nowhere near the range that he did in this video. I know I never do. Last DJI drone I had was a Mavic Pro and I could barely get 3,000 feet before my video feed was getting too choppy to watch on my iPhone.

This makes me want to buy the MA2 but the DJI FPV is about to be released so I don't know if I should wait.

Great range test, you gotta know your limits!, this proves on a full battery you can make it out and back within a certain safety margin.
If it's calm not a problem, if it's a little blustery don't expect as much out/return range as the battery may drain to compensate more.

A key problem with the DJI Fly app is that it will not work with MOST Android phones or tablets! That, with the absimal customer service from DJI, should be taken into account before buying.

Dustin, what are things that you think might greatly influence the range/distance this Air 2 can fly? Does height matter? Hills? Trees? At first I was not able to go past 1500 ft....and just recently was able to get to 5000 ft before the Weak Signal warning and emergency Return To Home activated. I guess Occusync is not so great after all.....for some of us

What is your setting for gimble rotation - I get choppy footage mostly when I rotate gimble in any direction

I flew it to 8km in CE mode, this drone is amazing. This one time I pushed it too hard (7.5km in CE mode) and it ran out of battery during RTH. It flew 450 meters at 0% before crash landing (nothing broke) a km away from home point.

That was spectacular! I am excited about purchasing this unit. That was a nail biter for me. The system would not let you override anything which was reassuring for me. At Costco they have a bundle for $789.

Hey Dustin....Has anyone got with you on their poor range with the MA2? Mine will not get any more than 2500 feet b4 it looses its signal. I have tried this in a few different scenarios. I sent it back 2 Amazon today not wanting to deal with DJI. It should have good range right out of the box. Just wondering if any of your viewers or you have experienced anything like this. I estimate your drone was around 630 meters/2066 feet above the ground at the furthest point where you turned around. Don't Hawaii have the same FAA limit of 400 feet/120 meters? The most reasonable interpretation for the max height limit is to keep within it in relation to the ground at the current location of the drone, not in relation to the launch point. You might want to descend to stay within 400 feet above the current point next time. During normal flight you also descend/ascend.

you should make a video where you fly into the ravine at 6:30 and see if the drone loses signal. I heard that someone flew the air two 3 miles then flew into a gravel pit and range was fine. It would make for a neat video

I don't know, but I suppose that quads' aerodynamic considerations are similar to helicopters (without swashplates) near max forward speed such as lift asymmetry and other complicated stuff. Anyway, I strongly suspect you squandered some energy with full forward speed. There must be a sweet spot. An experiment to determine VBR is what I would really like to see. Waddaya think?
As to range tests generally, always conduct them upwind. ;-)

1 mind tells me i gotta be really carefull and it’s hard to fly the mavic pro i just got.
And the 2nd mind tells me that it’s fine and it wont just fly anywhere like my 10$ drone due to all the sensors. Yes i upgraded from 10$ to 900$ drone.

There is a battery update mod available. Gal Kremer tested it. flight time up to 40 minutes. Really impressive. He made a range test and came back with 60% left after 5.x km. Cheers

Great video. Can you tell me what transmission setting you had to achieve this distance? Manual, auto, 5.8 ghz, 2.4 ghz etc.

Wish we could do that kinda thing here the uk laws require it being in sight at all times. And never above 400 ft
