How this happened: I messaged Tory "If you ever find yourself with an open lunch I'll buy. No cameras, just rocket geek chat."
A few months later he changed a flight one day so we could grab lunch, but he also carved out a couple of hours before lunch to give me a personal tour.
He's as cool off camera as he is on camera. He allowed me to ask any technical question I had, and I never even got close to the limits of his understanding of rockets. His technical prowess is something I aspire to. We made a video on the second channel where I interview him about more specific things about rockets, as well as how he feels about competitors.

Destin? As an iron worker that has hung high steel and also built Harleys and hot rods by welding and fabricating I do not understand why in the world they did fusion welding on the fuel tank!!!!!!!
That is so much weaker than a filler rod. Whenever you bond to materials together like they did by swirling and heating the metal through preheating swirling and fusing the metals together and then post heating after the metals are fused together it makes it weaker actually. But it does make it as one piece and I understand why they would do that to a certain extent because the weld that it would take to view something that big together would be pretty heavy. That's the only reason I can think they would do that

I not only assembled details for Atlas but also for Delta
I machined a lot details including barrel panels skirt panels
I was a senior machinist for 19 yrs and 14 yrs as a senior missile mechanic before I retired
I hope you get to see high bay where the assembly of the Centur
The booster is assembled on the main floor. I had a great experience in Decatur. there are some very very talented people out there

By the way everyone whenever they say rocket factory they don’t make the whole thing they only make the shell and the stuff inside they don’t actually put in the controls the computers the engines or anything like that they just build in the shell and insulation as well as a few other things

You know what I found amazing, not just did the CEO know every little process (I'm sure it goes a lot deeper but still) he also said hello or waved at passing staff.
