The volcano in Geldingadalir is becoming even weirder and has now transformed into a kind of fire geyser. Currently, all of the craters have now dried up except the one scientists call Number Five. And said crater is behaving like a geyser, spewing lava and fire into the air. When we were there, the lava fountain reached probably over 200 metres and it’s clear that the volcano area is transforming even more than we expected.

#5 needs a better name. Doesn’t Icelandic sagas have a set of names you can use? Regarding noise, when Mt. Hekla erupted you could feel it, then hear it, before seeing orange glow through the smoke. Sort of like base note of a church organ. Thank you for your efforts in recording the eruption and your camera crew.
PS - hopefully no Icelandic elves lost their homes due to the eruption!

I used to think how wild the flood basalt could be after doing a research paper on the P-T extinction even in my geology course, but watching this video, and seeing exactly how high the lava flow has gotten in just 2 months and has covered that much land, see 2:11 really puts it in perspective for me at how dangerous flood basalt events are. Each of those small dots near the lava flow are people. I took a quick second to look it up again, and the Siberian traps are 250 meter meters high, 250 METERS high... and COVERED an area of land about a 2-thirds the size of the Russia.. That's Earth people, that's geology. That's insane.
Imagine something of this scale happening for a million years before it stopped, no wonder the Great Dying was the largest extinction even. People getting sick and having to evac after a couple hours-days around that small area, imagine how the air would be after a million years of that, at 3 million square miles of land? Hell

Interesting observation. there is an invisible *tornado* or spinning column of air visible from the 4 minute mark to the 5 minute mark. It starts from the right hand side of the lava flow and travels to the top left hand side. Its violent enough to pull the lava crust off the flow and expose the red hot lava beneath. It is pulling red hot lava out of the surface of the flow and flinging the lava maybe 50 feet and lifting crust it looks like 100 feet vertical. Ive studied tornadoes and dust devil behavior extensively and am seeing motion exactly the same as in a dust devil. It is not gas bubbles in the lava ejecting material. Look at the direction of travel of the disturbance, from lower on the lava flow *upwards* towards the vent. You can see a gash or opening in the surface of the lava flow as its traveling. What a cool thing to observe.
